Looking for a great day hike near Yellowknife? The Ranney Hill Hike is one of the most popular short hikes near the city.
Accessible by driving up the Vee Lake Road, this natural hiking trail (2.5 km) is a popular afternoon adventure. To reach the Ranney Hill-Martin Lake Trail, drive 6.6 km from Yellowknife along the IngrahamTrail, and turn left onto the Vee Lake Road. The trailhead is 500 m from the parking lot along Vee Lake Road on the right shoulder.
When you reach the steep pink granite dome of Ranney Hill, climb 200 m to the top for a 360º panorama of the entire Yellowknife area. Back at the base of the hill, head west to Martin Lake, a quiet place to relax and enjoy nature.
Note: This hike is unmarked. There are no signs at the trailhead or along the trail.
