In 1982 a group of Yellowknife sports enthusiasts and business people saw the need for a specialty sporting goods store in Yellowknife. They got together to form a small company and started selling sports equipment in May 1983 out of a location of 1,800 square feet on 49th Street.
In the spring of 1984 they moved locations to the Roman Empire Building on the corner of 51st & 51st, eventually expanding to take over the whole main floor. In 1987 Bill & Sandra bought out the remaining shareholders to become the sole owners of Overlander Sports.
In 2003 they moved to their current location on 4909-50th Street, originally an IGA grocery store. They have now been in business for over 30 years.
